Yoga nidra is guided meditation practice where participants lie on the back and are led through a series of awareness points, breathing exercises and visualizations. Yoga nidra encourages deep relaxation of the body leading to a release of physical, emotional and mental stress. Deep relaxation, like meditation, when practiced regularly not only relieves stress and anxiety, but also has been shown to improve mood. Deep relaxation has many other potential benefits as well—it can decrease blood pressure, relieve pain, and improve immune and cardiovascular systems.
What to bring… comfort is paramount when practicing Yoga Nidra please bring your yoga mat, if you have difficulty lying on your back for an extended period of time a bolster or blanket to place behind the knees is helpful, you may want to bring a flat pillow or blanket to prop your head, if you tend to become cool when still, a blanket as a cover up. Wear comfortable non-binding clothing; socks and an eye pillow may be helpful.
