About Our Training Program
Our 290-hour, Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher’s Training Courses are designed for those who are passionate about practicing yoga. Our curriculum provides the tools you need to both deepen your personal practice and give you the ability to share your Yoga experience. We offer this training in 3 styles - Hatha Yoga (emphasis on Therapeutically Oriented Yoga), Hot Yoga, and Vinyasa Yoga. Individual program descriptions, courses and dates are listed below.
The Science of Teaching Yoga (7 TT Modules, 147 hours)
Seven weekend immersions covering "the nuts and bolts" of teaching yoga: voice quality, presence, sequencing, demonstrating, legal issues, how yoga works, history of yoga, business of yoga, practice teaching, living the yoga lifestyle, asana (physical poses), pranayama (breathwork), meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy, and alignment. The Science of Teaching Yoga is required for ALL our 270 Hour Teacher Training Programs andARE included with tuition.Dates for the Science of Teaching Yoga are listed below.
30 Hour Yoga Training Intensive (30 hours)
Students attend one of the following required intensives depending on the style of yoga they are studying.
The 30 hour intensive teacher training courses are designed to train students in the techniques and methodologies of teaching their chosen style of yoga. We will help guide trainees into their role as yoga teachers with the knowledge and open-heartedness that it takes to teach dynamic and fun yoga classes. Students looking to become teachers, students who are currently teachers with or without previous training, or students simply having the desire to deepen their practice and spend 30 hours immersed into the practice and study of yoga, will find these courses inspiring and practical. A certification to teach yoga and Yoga Alliance continuing education hours are available upon completion.30 hour intensive courses ARE included with tuition.
Informed Assists with Grace (14 hours)
Learn the basics of giving adjustments in a yoga class. In this workshop we will cover:
Philosophy behind safe and effective adjustments.
Hands on adjustments for basic yoga postures
Different techniques used for different situations
Biomechanics of adjustments
Psychological and Motor Learning principles behind adjustments.
Adjustments will be presented in a dogma-free environment, with an emphasis on safety of the student and instructor. Adjustments will be practiced on each other under the watchful eye of a highly experienced and trained instructor. This workshop is perfect for anyone wishing to deepen their teaching practice or refresh and review adjustments. The adjustment workshop is intended for yoga teachers, but everyone is welcome to attend. This course takes place Saturday & Sunday April 28 & 29, 2018.Informed Assists with Grace IS included with tuition.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?
Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses that is one of the most popular styles of yoga in the United States today. Also sometimes called Vinyasa Flow, Power Yoga, and Power Vinyasa Yoga this type of practice involves synchronizing the breath with a continuous flow of postures. The fluid movements increase flexibility, strength, and stamina, as it calms the mind and improves overall health.

Our 290 Hour Hatha Teacher Training
What is Hatha Yoga?
Ha - translates as “sun” and Tha translates as “moon”. Hatha Yoga balances these two energies bringing balance to body and mind. Hatha yoga refers to the physical practice of yoga (asanas) as opposed to, say, chanting or meditation.
As a style of yoga, Hatha Yoga aligns the body allowing the energy to flow freely, especially through the spine - the main energy channel of the body. In our physical practice we work on balancing flexibility and strength, steadiness and ease (Sthira and Sukha). Hatha yoga can sometimes be thought of as a more gentle form of yoga than Power Yoga, Ashtanga or Vinyasa because the poses aren’t generally linked together in a flow, however, Hatha classes can be just as challenging due to their slower pace.

Although you may have a gifted personal practice, guiding a room full of students through a powerful yoga practice with confidence is quite different than practicing yourself. Mastering the ability to communicate and connect with your students is a crucial part of being an effective teacher.
The goal of Yoga Teacher Training is to teach you how to become a dynamic teacher, while at the same time, giving you an opportunity to explore and discover the power within yourself, both as a teacher and as an individual. Our practical training program focuses on how to TEACH yoga, not just the poses.
Our service as teachers is to improve the quality of peoples lives and leave our students in a better place, both mentally and physically. To achieve this requires a deep understanding of how the body works beyond the superficial level. From a modern physiology and functional anatomy perspective, YogaU Teacher Training provides cutting edge techniques such as anatomy study, Alignment Yoga Principles, video review, posture specific workshops, and more, for a comprehensive experience. Having a strong understanding of the way the body functions allows teachers to better understand why postures work the way they do and why the series follows a particular sequence.
Yoga University is an RYS Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance. All graduates of Yoga University Yoga Teacher Training Programs will be eligible for registration (RYT) with Yoga Alliance® at the 200 &/or 500 Hour Level.
The 290-hour & 670 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Curriculum consists of:
Techniques - Includes both training in the techniques and practice of asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting and meditation.
Teaching methodology - Includes principles of demonstration, observation, assisting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a dynamic yoga teacher, and the students process of learning. Also includes the Business of Yoga
Anatomy and Physiology - Includes both Anatomy and Physiology (bodily systems, organs etc.) and astral/energy/subtle Anatomy and Physiology (chakras, nadis etc.)
Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle - Study of Yoga Scriptures, Ethics for yoga teachers, and yoga lifestyle
Practicum - Includes student teaching and providing feedback as well as observing and assisting Power Alignment Yoga classes taught by others.
Yoga Teacher Training is designed for those who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their yoga practice. Certification is not automatic upon completion of the course and will be determined by the instructor's assessment of the student's understanding of the materials as well as the student's capacity and ability to teach.

The primary prerequisite is interest in learning the Yoga University approach to teaching Hatha Yoga. It is suggested that students unfamiliar with Yoga University's approach to Hatha Yoga take Alignment Yoga classes at Altamonte Springs Yoga with MyLinda. Students do not need to be experts in any aspect of Yoga, but they do need to have a well-established Hatha Yoga practice that has been consistent for at least six months. **
Students should have a love of Yoga and a strong desire to pass that love of Yoga on to others.
Students should be in good physical and mental health (minor injuries/illness may be accommodated).
For the 670 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs registration with Yoga Alliance at the 200 Hour level is required.
For the 670 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Programsa minimum of 6 months of Yoga teaching experience is required.
**In order to prepare for Yoga Teacher Training program, students need to have had a daily personal yoga practice for an extended period of time. We recommend at least an hour of Hatha yoga every day for six months before the start of the training. During the training, we will be practicing yoga for approximately three hours each day. This can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. Physical fitness acquired through other disciplines does not necessarily provide sufficient preparation. We ask that students have a strong personal Hatha yoga practice to ensure they will be prepared for the high level of activity and the heightened level of energy produced in the body by this intense daily practice of asana and pranayama.
